The official consumption data of the new Chevrolet Cruze Eco 2011 have been unveiled (marketing starting next January from 18,895 dollars). As promised in Chevrolet’s sedan appears frugal to say the least claiming an average consumption of 4.6 L/100 km for models with a manual transmission.

In fact, consumption on the highway Cruze Eco is lower than non-hybrid vehicles and diesel competition, and corresponds to the consumption of theHonda Insight Hybrid 2011. She also carries on the smaller Ford Fiesta 2011 et affiche une consommation 17 % inférieure à la Honda Civic
2011 sur l’autoroute.
The aerodynamic improvements made to the manual models compared to models’ non Eco “have reduced consumption on the highway of 0.8 L/100 km to 4.6 L/100 km. Many of these improvements have been developed and refined through more than 500 hours of wind tunnel tests of the Chevrolet Volt, which also shares its architecture with the Cruze. Improvements include greater emphasis grille which provides more fillings that enhance the aerodynamics of the vehicle, an extension of lower front spoiler, rear spoiler, a lowered suspension and underbody panels that allow for easier passage of air under the vehicle. Eco model also features an entirely new technology in the compact class: an air-valve located lower on the grill closes at high speed to enhance the vehicle’s aerodynamics, and open at low speed optimize the cooling of the engine. Of tires Goodyear 17 to very low rolling resistance (in conjunction with light wheels), which are also used for the Volt, contribute to further reduce the drag coefficient. These improvements have reduced the drag coefficient by 10 percent compared to non-eco model, a coefficient of 0.298, which corresponds to the value of the best performing category.
Recall that the Cruze sedan is powered by Eco engine supercharged Ecotec 1.4-liter 138 hp (103 kW), while torque is 200 Nm at 1850 rpm and 4900 rpm. Some comparative figures in U.S. data? Here are facing some of these opponents of the segment knowing that the Cruze Eco is 28 mpg city and 42 mpg on the highway: Toyota Corolla (26 mpg to 35 mpg), Honda Civic (26 mpg and 34 mpg), Ford Focus (25 mpg to 35 mpg) or Hyundai Elantra (26 mpg to 35 mpg).
